On Tuesday night, Dwight Howard decided to mock LeBron James at his old home court in Cleveland. Found it on yahoo.com, Ball Don’t Lie sports blog.

Tyreke Evans game winning shot

Tyreke EvansThe Sacramento Kings and the Memphis Grizzlies played last night.  So what?  Well, the biggest moment of the NBA season may have come last night.

Check it out here courtesy of NBA.com:  Evans game winning shot.

O.J. Mayo hit a fade-away jumper to give the Grizzlies a one-point lead with 1.5 seconds left in the game.  The game wasn’t over though.  The Kings in-bounded the ball to Tyreke Evans who threw up a prayer at half-court and knocked down the three to win the game.

Miami Heat on a roll

Dwayne Wade

Dwayne Wade, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh are on a roll since starting the season 9-8

The Miami Heat are beginning to dominate the NBA and it looks like  most people were wrong when they thought the Heat couldn’t come together this quick.

Do they look like a championship contender?  Yes.

At the beginning of the season when the Heat were 9-8 and LeBron James bumped into coach Erik Spoelstra by accident (so he says) the NBA commentators were having a field day.

They said:

James, Bosh and Wade can’t come together.

There’s not enough depth on the bench.

Who will contribute other than the big three?

And whose team is it?

Well, everything changed when James and the gang brought their talents to Cleveland, into a hostile environment to play James’ old team.  The team seemed to come together that night when they whooped the Cavaliers and left their fans to suffer even more.  Ever since then the Heat have won 13 out of 14, including a dominating game over the Los Angeles Lakers at the Staples Center.

James and Wade now seem to know when it’s time to take over at different times in the game, and Bosh can just wait and let the game come to him.  James has probably been the biggest reason for the turnaround even though he hasn’t been scoring the way Wade has.  James is so unselfish (on the basketball court) that he’s great at feeding his teammates and giving the ball to the guy that is hot.  And when he wants to take over, he can.

NBA commentators didn’t want to pick the Heat because they thought a team filled with all-stars wouldn’t be able to coexist.  Well, it looks like that idea was gone as fast as the Heat tore the hearts out of Cavs fans in early December.

Defensively, they are the best in the league.  And they have two guys that can take over at any point in the game.  The Boston Celtics might still be their hardest competition in the Eastern Conference, but it seems like many people took the Heat lightly.  They’re on a roll and with the way they play defense, it looks like they actually have a shot to win a title in their first year together.

Thomas Will Be Back Soon Enough

Don’t jump for joy yet Knicks fans.  Yes, Isiah has declined the Knicks offer to be a consultant but that doesn’t mean James Dolan will do everything in his power to bring Thomas back as the General manager the second Thomas says he doesn’t want to coach college ball anymore.

The worst executive in sports history is still great friends with Dolan and for some weird reason he thinks Thomas is a good basketball mind.  Hey Dolan, Isiah was a great basketball player, yeah even top 50, but he’s terrible at running a team.

When the Knicks got word that Thomas declined the offer because it would not be good for the NBA and  the NCAA to have a coach also consulting a pro team, Dolan still had great things to say about his best friend.  Thomas can do no wrong in Dolan’s eyes.

The question on everybody’s mind is why does Dolan hold Isiah at such high regard?  Dolan will never say it.  When was the last time you saw him give an interview on TV or in the newspaper?  Exactly…

Although Zeeke won’t be with the Knicks in the near future, I’m sure he will eventually get his old job back and screw up the Knicks once again, while making other teams better.

While with the Knicks, they never won a playoff game, attendance dropped, and the Knicks lost two lottery picks because Thomas thought it was smart to trade for an overweight center with a heart condition.

On the bright side for other NBA teams, he helped out a lot.  Let’s take four teams:  Phoenix Suns, Orlando Magic, Portland Trailblazers and Chicago Bulls.

The Suns found a taker for Stephon Marbury and Penny Hardaway.  What happened next?  The suns had enough money to get Steve Nash who went on to win two MVP’s with the Suns.

The Magic saw how great Thomas was at making bad trades so they offered them Steve Francis and his contract, and the Magic are now one of the best teams in the NBA.

The Blazers.  Remember that guy Zach Randolph?  Well, Zeeke was dreaming one night and saw Eddy Curry and Zach Randolph sitting at a McDonald’s one day and said, “wow those two can play great together in the front court.”  Well, I don’t know if he really had that dream, but the Knicks acquired Randolph to make the worst low post duo in basketball.

And finally, the Bulls.  Isiah thought he can get a talented center, who never worked out in a day in his life, and had a heart problem.  So he grabbed two first round picks from his bag of tricks and sent them to the Bulls for fat man Eddy Curry.

Those are just a couple of moves that Dolan thought were so great.  Now it is apparent that the Cablevision Czar wants more of that.  Sorry Knicks fans.  The pain will never end.

Brief NBA News: Reports say Anthony will Test Free Agency

August 4, 2010 1 comment

Some brief NBA news for those who care, but I promise there will be no major announcements on prime time television with Vitamin Water all over the place.

Knicks fans get to dream again about another year of free agency.  According to reports, Carmelo Anthony won’t be signing the contract extension that has been waiting on the table for him for weeks now.

Maybe it’s the LaLa thing that has taken him so long, or Anthony really might want to test the free agency waters because he’s seen how much air time he will get next year.

Anthony has turned into a great player, near superstar status but oddly enough his jersey sales are not in the top-ten in the NBA.  If Anthony decides to join Amar’e Stoudemire next season the Knicks will be a team to reckon with in the East.  Also, Chris Paul still might be traded, and the Knicks would love to try to acquire Tony Parker from the Spurs.

So Knicks fans get to salivate over a superstar player again but by the time they get to the dinner table, there might be nothing there.  I guess they can keep dreaming.
